Barcoding Specifications & Requirements

Overview

Every product must have a scannable barcode. This reference covers barcode standards and sizing requirements.

Barcode Standards

• Follow industry standard GS1 General Specifications when possible

• Free barcode generators available at Shopify Barcode Generator

UPC-A Barcode Sizing

• Minimum: X-dimension 0.0104", bar height 0.72", width 1.174"

• Maximum: X-dimension 0.0260", bar height 1.8", width 2.936"

• Do NOT truncate barcodes (reduce height) as this reduces scannability

Serial Number Barcodes

SKUs with serial number tracking must have both:

1. A UPC barcode (identifies the SKU)

2. A Serial Number barcode (identifies the individual unit)

Inbound Shipment Labels

Clients should label each box with: Brand name, PO number, and box number (e.g., "1 of 5").
